I. Petroglyph

An image created by removing part of a rock surface by incising, picking, carving or abrading, as a form of rock art. Petroglyphs are often associated with prehistoric peoples. The word comes from the Greek word petro, meaning stone, and glyphein, meaning to carve.

In literate cultures, a petroglyph is a rock relief or rock-cut relief sculpture on solid or living rock, such as a cliff, rather than on a detached piece of stone. Historically, such rock art is linked to spiritual ceremonies, significant cultural events, or to honor the ancestors.

"Petroglyph" is a pre-release recording of The Song of Kokopelli, which is inspired by the cliff dwellings and rock art of the high desert Anasazi culture on the Colorado Plateau in the southwestern United States.
